Everton embarked on their best performance of the season to thump Palace in the league. Everton were awarded a penalty early on, their striker, Arteta coolly converted the spot kick to make it 1-0. Everton created plenty of opportunities through out the first half and could have scored many more as Duncan Ferguson had three great chances saved.
Everton came out for the second half, playing some exhilarating football, Cahill almost immediately put Everton 2-0 to the good. Cahill scored his second thanks to a great run by Kevin Kilbane to make it 3-0. Everton continued to dominated and the rout was complete as Kilbane and Osman made some great inter play for Vaughan to score the forth of the tie.

Everton 3-0 Wrexham (league Cup)

This league cup clash on a wet night in Wales proved to be a milestone in world football history, as the night Wayne Rooney emerged into the football scene. Both Scott Gemmil and Gary Naysmith returned from injury and Everton dominated all the early play and it came as no surprise when Kevin Campbell scored after 25 minutes.
Wayne Rooney came on at the hour mark and made his first impression on the football scene. With ten minutes remaining, Wayne Rooney scored Everton’s second, to become the youngest ever goal scorer for Everton. The match was complete only few minutes later as Wayne Rooney skipped past few defenders to smash in his second and Everton’s third. He nearly scored a hat trick late on however his shot was well saved by the Wrexham goalie. |
