Norman Whiteside


Physically robust for his age, Whiteside was known as a top goal scorer during his early years, often scoring more than 100 goals in a season of junior football. Born in Belfast, Whiteside reminded some of his nation of the young George Best, a parallel that was pursued when Whiteside went to the same club: Manchester United. Brave in the tackle, he was quick and had a devastating shot, and, owing to his size, did not seen to be easy to knock about. After a long spell at man United, Whiteside moved to Everton for £650000.

Stuart McCall

McCall blasted into the football scene during May 1989 in the FA Cup final between Everton and Liverpool, however he finished up on the losing side. He transferred to Everton in 1988 for a staggering £825000 and during his debut season he put on some great performances for the club. He starred in the 1990 world cup finals and was a revelation, scoring a vital goal against Sweden. He also paticipated for Scotland in the 1992 European Championships.

Pat Nevin

When Chelsea purchased Nevin for £90000, he proved to be an instant success at the club, helping them to promotion in his first season. He broke into the Scotland team in 1986 after his fantastic performances with Chelsea. After the disappointment of not being included in the Scottish national side for the 1990 world cup finals, he forced his was back into the team in qualifying for Euro 92. Nevin decided to leave Chelsea in 1988 after they were demoted to the second division and he moved over to Merseyside to play for Everton.

Dave Watson

In August 1986, Dave Watson moved to Everton for a staggering £1.23 million and repaid the club with his brilliant performances during his 14 year playing period with the club. He was a rock in defence during the late 1980’s and helped them to triumph in winning the league title in 1987 with the Toffee’s. Watson enjoyed further success with Everton in 1995 as the Blue won the FA Cup. Watson played for Everton between 1987 and 2001. In total making 419 appearances for the club and scoring 23 goals, he left the club at the age of 39, later being installed as the manager of Tranmere.

Graeme  Sharp

Sharp commenced his football playing career at Dumbarton prior signing for Everton in 1980 for £120,000. Sharp formed a mighty scoring partnership with Gary Lineker during the 1984-85 season, scoring 30 goals in 54 matches. Sharp has enjoyed winning many major honours with the Blues, he won the League title in 1985 and 1987, he won the FA Cup in 1984 and the European Cup Winners Cup of 1985. During his 12 year spell playing for Everton, he made 426 appearances for the club and scored an astonishing 159 goals. Sharp left Everton in 1991 and played for newly promoted Oldham Athletic.
