After the triumph of winning the league and European Cup winner’s cup the previous season, Everton embarked on another fine campaign, finishing second in the league. Their star striker, Gary Lineker, finished the season off as top goal scorer; he made up one of the two components of the Lineker - Graeme Sharp partnership up front. Everton also enjoyed FA Cup success as the demolished Liverpool in the FA Cup final of 1986, a match which included a heroic performance in goal by Neville Southall. Everton were a force once again the following season, they faired respectably in cup competitions as they reached the last eight of the League Cup, however thy saved their best form for the league as they dominated the division and won the league title for the second time in three years, Kevin Sheedy and Graeme Sharp were inspirational through out the season.
The Blues continued their great form the following season as they finished in a strong forth position in the league. Everton were unlucky in the league cup as they lost in the semi finals to Arsenal, 3-1.
Everton were part of a thrilling FA Cup final encounter the following season against their main rivals Liverpool, in an enjoyable to watch match, the final ended 2-2 in the 90 minutes played and went into extra time. Liverpool found a late winner and Everton were the FA Cup runners up.
