Everton began the 1980’s in disappointing fashion as they could only slightly improve on their league form in comparison to the previous season as they finished off the season in 15th position. The reached the quarter finals of the FA cup and the third round of the league cup. The 1981-82 campaign saw a significant improvement by the Toffeemen, Everton finished the season off strongly in eighth position and they boasted the talents of Graeme Sharp who was beginning to become prolific in front of goal.
During the 1982-83 season, Everton put on a good run in the FA Cup, eventually being knocked out to Man United in the last eight. Their league performance continued to improve as they finished the season off in seventh position.
The 1983-84 season was a mighty success for the Blues, they had a decent run in the first division, finishing the season off in seventh position, however they shined in the domestic cup competitions. They reached the final of the league cup, losing a final encounter with their Merseyside counterparts, Liverpool, 1-0. They also managed to reach the final of the FA Cup; in this case they won the final 2-0 against Watford.

Everton once again reached the final of the FA Cup against Manchester United; however they narrowly lost the tie 1-0. It was Everton’s league form that stole the headlines in the 1984-85 season as they ran away league winners, finishing the season off accumulating 90 points in total. Everton also reached their second final of the 1984-85 campaign, in search of the double, the tournament was the European Cup Winners Cup and they won the final emphatically against Austrian club, Rapid Vienna.
